Mark Zuckerberg, privacy and social networks

May 28, 2010

Many questions are currently raised over social networks and especially Facebook. Facebook’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has tried to end the drama, announcing new features to come which would protect anyone privacy… Will the Hockey mom feel safe to let their teen kids surfing on Facebook??? Not sure.

Is baby Bill Gates convincing enough?

Following another round of criticism over its privacy settings, Facebook is tinkering with its policies once again. But many users are starting to ask whether it’s too little, too late. The site has struggled with negative user feedback, while continuing to court advertisers for the hugely popular social network.

“When people have control over what they share, they want to share more. When people share more, the world becomes more open and connected,” Zuckerberg said. “Over the past few weeks, the number one thing we’ve heard is that many users want a simpler way to control their information. Today we’re starting to roll out changes that will make our controls simpler and easier,” says Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook currently has more than 400 million users around the world and recent statistics suggest close to one in four Canadians is a member of the site.

Rahm Emanuel Top aide leaves White House

May 14, 2010

Barack Obama’s spin doctor Rahm Emanuel’s top aide Sarah Feinberg decided to leave White House to join Bloomberg! A strange move which could lead to turmoil around Obama’s communication staff. Feinberg was one of the key actor of Obama’s revolutionary campaign in 2008.

Sarah Feinberg, a top aide to White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, is leaving to join Bloomberg L.P., the company announced this morning.

Feinberg, a special assistant to President Obama and a senior advisor to Emanuel, will be director of Bloomberg’s communication and business strategy efforts.

Feinberg’s husband, White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, will remain in his position.

“Sarah has demonstrated the strategic leadership that will build on Bloomberg’s position in Washington and across the globe,” read a statement from Kevin Sheekey, head of government relations and public affairs at Bloomberg L.P. and chairman of the new government information division. “Her experience at the intersection of communications, politics and public policy, her track record of managing complex issues and teams and her entrepreneurial spirit will be tremendous assets at Bloomberg.”

Feinberg has been with Emanuel since 2005, heading up communications for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee when then-Congressman Emanuel chaired that organization.
